Aptik v1.6

Aptik v1.6 is now available.

Top toolbar removed

The top toolbar was removed. It was simply duplicating the action buttons on the main window and adding complexity to the UI. The main window now looks much cleaner.

Package List Filters

The list of packages can now be filtered by name, type and status. This should make it a lot easier to search and select packages to backup and restore.

PPA Backup Changes

The PPA backup list would sometimes be empty on some systems. This has been fixed.

Package Restore Changes

The terminal window that pops up when you restore packages is now fully interactive. It's similar to running 'apt-get install' in a terminal window. It will prompt you before downloading packages and display the full installation summary.

Installation and Updates

Aptik can be installed by running the following commands in a terminal window:

sudo apt-add-repository -y ppa:teejee2008/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install aptik

Existing users can update the application with the following commands:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install aptik

  1. Ubuntu 14.04, Aptik 1.6.1 here
Aptik freezes when I try to backup Software Sources (PPAs)
    PPAs not saved
    Not any error message
    Have to kill app

  2. Hello, my apology. I tried to donate $20, however Pay Pal defaulted to $10 (would not let me change).

I paid $10, then tried to pay anotehr $10 (but it thinks I'm making an error)--aka---I assume since it $10 and immediately again $10 "PP" thinks I'm trying the "same" transaction (vs. a 2nd new one).

Anyway, I love the APP, I will donate further!

  3. Brilliant piece of software!

1.6.1 crashes on 14.04 based Mint KDE though, when selecting backup destination location...

    Thanks for your efforts!!!

  4. Not for posting - but please email me back crazybear at The program seems potentially great. I have searched and searched, but find no answer. I guess geek linux users can figure it out - I can't. I want to move what I backed up using Aptik in Ubuntu 12.04 to 14.04, eventually 15.04 -BUT where in the world ARE the backups in 12.04 and how do I move them [or tell the Aptik in 14.04 where to find them]? This should be somewhere explained. Am I missing something obvious to others? Thanks.

  5. Here to confirm Aptik crashes in Mint 17.1 KDE x64 when I try to sleect a folder

  6. I would like to see Aptik working on Archlinux

  7. I would like to see Aptik working on Archlinux

  8. I tried to donate, but your Paypal account is closed. :(

Can't seem to locate aptik in your PPA anymore either. :(

  9. Sorry, I can't install Aptik on Ubuntu 15.04. After I have added the ppa (and updated) it says it can't be found any aptik package... :(

  10. I also cannot install Aptik on Ubuntu 15.04. Having same problem as Anonymous above.

  11. I join to 2 comments above. No possible to install in Ubuntu 15.04

  12. Congratulations for the great program.

Using it in a xubuntu virtual drive (VMware) I discovered the following strange behaviour. When using the restore packages option I get an error "Internet connection is not active. Please check the connection and try again."

This happens although the internet connection is working perfectly (e.g. with chromium, skype,...).

Do you have any idea how to solve this problem?
