Installation

Debian/Ubuntu

If you are using Ubuntu 12.04 (precise), 12.10 (quantal), 13.04 (raring), 13.10 (saucy) (or any of its derivates like Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Linux Mint) then you can install it from the LaunchPad PPA:

Run the following commands in a terminal window:

sudo apt-add-repository -y ppa:teejee2008/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install conky-manager

After installation, the application will be updated automatically if you have enabled automatic updates on your system. The package can also be updated manually by running the install command again.

sudo apt-get install conky-manager

For other Debian systems the DEB package can be download from LaunchPad.net

Arch Linux

Arch Linux users can install it from the AUR with the following command:

yaourt -S conky-manager-bzr

The tarball can be download from the following link:
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/conky-manager-bzr/

Basics

Themes are kept in the ~/conky-manager/themes directory. Each folder in this location is displayed as a separate theme. Selecting a theme from the top list will display the conkyrc files in the bottom list. Click the checkboxes in the top list or the bottom list to start or stop a theme.

The Options tab has an option to start Conky on system startup. It creates an autostart entry in ~./.config/autostart when checked, and removes the file when un-checked. The actual startup script is written to ~/conky-manager/conky-startup.sh. The script is updated when the app exits.

Adding Themes

A few themes have been packaged with the app. The following changes are required to package a theme for this app:

  1. Each sub-folder in location ~/conky-manager/themes is displayed as a separate theme. Folder name is displayed as theme name.

  2. Config files are kept in a sub-folder named config. All files in this location will be treated as conky config files. The .conkyrc extension is not required. Config files with a .conkyrc extension can also be kept in the base folder.

  3. The config files should not have hard-coded paths. All paths must be relative to base folder. The base folder will be set as working directory for Conky.

  4. Fonts must be kept in a sub-folder named fonts. Fonts from this location will be installed to the local fonts directory (~/.fonts) when the user starts the theme.

  5. The preview image (optional) should be named preview.png and kept in the base folder.

  6. The credits and other information for the theme can be specified in the file info.txt in the base folder.

Conky Theme Packs

A conky manager theme pack is a 7zip file with a .cmtp.7z extension containing following folders:

1) fonts - These fonts will be copied to ~/.fonts when the pack is imported. 2) themes - These themes will be copied to ~/conky-manager/themes 3) home - Any folders named conky, .conky or .fonts in this location will be copied to the user's Home folder.

To import a theme pack go to the Options tab and click the Import button:

The Wifi section is on Wlan0 like the others but is non working.
Any way to fix it? I would like to have the same one on all three, I need the network "counter" because they charge me the data amount.

    1. Open the conky-manager folder & create folder 'conky eOS' Within that folder create another folder called config which contains the conkyrc. In other words the path must be ~/conky-manager/conky eOS/config/conkyrc and then 'refresh list' inside the conky manager. You can also put screenshot named 'preview.png' within the conky eOS folder. That worked for me. If there is any lua link or images, make sure the paths check out.

  65. The Gold & Grey theme has a bug in the time widget: when I select 24-hour mode, it says (as it does at the moment): 16:20 PM. I don't know where else to report this.

Great job. But when you add a dot to directory name of conky-manager? This catalog should be invisible.

  68. I am on Linux Mint 16. Do need to run Conky Manager in the background all the time for this to work. Whenever I click on the shortcut for "Desktop", Conky dissappears.

    1. You can close Conky Manager after starting the themes. Don't use the "Show Desktop" option. Just close the window normally.

  71. Great project! I will contribute with translation, but could you please pull a list of users from launchpad that have contributed and add it to the Conky Managers About-tab?

    1. Please wait till the next version is released instead of translating the existing template. I'll merge the existing translations and update the list.
